Canonul de rugăciune către Îngerul păzitor

În cultul creștin ortodox există două Paraclise închinate Maicii Domnului: primul Paraclis compus de călugărul Teostirict în secolul nouă (unii spun Teofan) şi un al doilea Paraclis. Pe parcursul anului se cântă doar primul Paraclis închinat Maicii Domnului însă pe durata postului Adormirii Maicii Domnului (1-14 august), tipicul bisericesc spune ca primul și al doilea Paraclis să fie cântate alternativ. În biserica ortodoxă Rusă, echivalentul paraclisului este Moleben, ce are o structură asemănătoare, numai că se omite canonul, păstrând doar refrenul și Irmosul cântărilor trei, șase și nouă. Potrivit profesorului de liturgică John Fountoulis, deși cele două canoane închinate Maicii Domnului sunt diferențiate prin denumirea de „primul” și „al doilea” de fapt ele au același număr de cântări și anume treizeci și două. Cu toate acestea, al doilea Paraclis este puțin mai mare. Adevărata deosebire între cele două este aceea că al doilea Canon este cântat pe un ton mai vioi în timpul postului Adormirii Maicii Domnului.
