    Pick a style

Twelve vocabularies, from clean esports names to horror, anime, retro arcade and Romanian. Combine several and the generator mixes them.

    2

    Set the rules

Choose length, capitalisation, separators, leetspeak and a font. Add your own word and every result is built around it.

    3

    Save what you like

Click a name to copy it, or star it. Saved names stay in your browser and can be exported as a text file.

    What this generator actually does

Most nickname generators glue two random words together and hope for the best. This one builds names from grammatical roles — a describing word, a thing, and a character — so the result reads like a name somebody would actually choose, not like a collision of nouns.

Everything runs in your browser. Nothing is sent to a server, nothing is stored about you, and there is no limit on how many names you generate. The word lists and the rules are the same ones you see in the controls above.

What makes a nickname worth keeping

    • People can say it. If your teammates cannot pronounce it on voice comms, they will invent something else and that becomes your name.
    • People can spell it. Heavy leetspeak and lookalike characters make you hard to find, add as a friend, or search for.
    • It fits everywhere. A name that works on Steam but is rejected by Minecraft means two identities instead of one.
    • It still fits in five years. Names built on a current meta, patch or meme age badly.
    • It is yours across platforms. The same handle on Steam, Discord and YouTube is worth more than a clever one you can only use once.

    Username rules by platform

The most common reason a name gets rejected is length or an unsupported character. Rough guide — platforms do change these, so treat it as a starting point:

    PlatformLengthWhat it accepts
Steamup to 32Very permissive, including most special characters and non-Latin scripts
Discord2–32Username is lowercase letters, digits, dot and underscore. The display name is far more relaxed
Minecraft (Java)3–16Letters, digits and underscore only — no symbols, no spaces
Riot ID (Valorant, LoL)3–16Letters, digits and spaces, plus a separate tagline
Xbox gamertagup to 12Letters, digits and spaces
PlayStation Network3–16Letters, digits, hyphen and underscore
Epic Games3–16Letters, digits and a few symbols
    Twitch4–25Letters, digits and underscore only

This is why the generator shows a length badge on every result, and marks names that use special characters with a warning. If you need something that works everywhere, turn on Letters and digits only and keep the length at 16 or under.

Fancy fonts: read this before you use one

The 𝗯𝗼𝗹𝗱, 𝔤𝔬𝔱𝔥𝔦𝔠 and sᴍᴀʟʟ ᴄᴀᴘs options do not change the font — they swap each letter for a different Unicode character that happens to look like it. That has consequences: many games reject those characters outright, search does not match them, and screen readers read them badly. They work well on Discord and most social profiles, and poorly almost everywhere else.

    Styles you can generate

    • Pro / Esports — short, clean, the kind of name you see on a tournament scoreboard
    • Cool / Aesthetic — smooth and modern, built from light and space words
    • Dark / Horror — grim vocabulary for people who want the lobby to notice
    • Funny / Meme — food, animals and bad decisions
    • Fantasy / RPG — for MMOs and anything with a character sheet
    • Cyber / Sci-Fi — circuits, protocols and neon
    • Beast / Animal — predators, short and blunt
    • Tactical / Military — for realistic shooters
    • Anime / Japan — drawn from anime and Japanese folklore
    • Retro / Arcade — eighties and nineties arcade energy
    • Romanian — local vocabulary, written without diacritics so it works in any game
    • Tryhard / Toxic — aggressive names for people who play to win

    Questions

    Is the generator free?
Yes, completely. No account, no limit on how many names you generate, and no data collected about you. It runs entirely in your browser.
Will the name I get be unique?
The generator can build millions of different names, so the odds of landing on something unused are good — but nobody can promise it. Popular short names are almost certainly taken. If a name matters to you, search for it on the platform first, and consider adding your own word or a number to make it yours.
Can I use these names on Steam, Discord or CS2?
Yes. Keep the font set to Plain and turn on Letters and digits only if you want a name that is accepted everywhere without editing. The length badge on each result tells you how long the base name is, which is what most platforms limit.
How do I build a name around my own name?
Type it into the Your word field. Every result will then be built around it — as a prefix, a suffix, or combined with a describing word. It works with real names, gamer tags, or any word you like.
Why do some names have a warning symbol?
That marks names containing characters outside plain letters and digits — special fonts, brackets or decorations. They look good on Discord and social profiles, but a number of games will reject them or display them as boxes.
Where are my saved names kept?
In your own browser, on this device only. They are not sent anywhere and we cannot see them. Clearing your browser data removes them, so use Download .txt if you want to keep a copy.
Can I use a generated name commercially, for a team or a channel?
The generator combines ordinary words, so the output is not something we own or license. That said, a name being generated here does not make it free of someone else's trademark — check before you build a brand on it.
